Physicochemical properties:

Eastman supplies 1,4-dihydroxymethylcyclohexane in three forms: solid CHDM-D (lump), molten CHDM-D, and aqueous slurry CHDM-D90. Solid CHDM-D is a white, waxy substance at room temperature. CHDM-D90 contains 9.5%–10.5% water and is a slightly turbid liquid at room temperature. CHDM-D90 does not exhibit a distinct freezing point.

Characteristics and Uses:

This product is a special alicyclic diol containing symmetrical, unhindered primary hydroxyl groups. It exhibits a relatively fast reaction rate, excellent thermal stability, and produces resins with a light color, a good balance of hardness and flexibility, a high glass transition temperature, moderate solubility, and moderate weather resistance. It is mainly used in the synthesis of polyester resins for coatings and polymers for cosmetics. It can be used in the synthesis of polyester polyols and as a polyurethane chain extender. Due to its symmetrical structure, it possesses unique properties.

Chemtura’s Vibracure A 240 curing agent is a solid 1,4-cyclohexanediethanol with a melting point of approximately 57°C. It is used as a curing agent for PPDI-type prepolymers, offering a long pot life and slightly lower hardness than butanediol elastomers.
