Colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid, slightly soluble in water. Vapor density is 5 times that of air.

Properties and uses

2-Ethyl-1,3-hexanediol is a special sterically hindered diol containing one primary hydroxyl group and one secondary hydroxyl group. It can improve hydrolytic stability, resin solubility, and reduce crystallinity. It can be used as a raw material for saturated and unsaturated polyesters, and can also be used in the production of polyurethane coatings, elastomers, etc. 2-Ethyl-1,3-hexanediol exhibits good miscibility with low-polarity oligomeric polyols such as hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene, and can be used as a chain extender in this system. It can also be used as a solvent in printing inks, cosmetics, and mosquito repellents.

Toxicity:

The acute oral toxicity LD50 in rats is 1400 mg/kg, and in mice it is 4200 mg/kg.
