White powder, melting point 200~201℃, insoluble in water, slightly soluble or slightly soluble in organic solvents, hydroxyl content (10.8±0.2)%.

Product purity is ≥99.0% or ≥97.0%.

Preparation Method:

Spirodiol is synthesized from formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde, obtained from the intermediate in the synthesis of neopentyl glycol.

Properties and Uses:

Spirodiol is a special heterocyclic diol composed of a spiroring protected by four adjacent methyl groups. This compound contains two primary hydroxyl groups and can be used to synthesize polyesters, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, polyether polyols, epoxy resins, diacrylates, and antioxidants. It is particularly used as a raw material for polyurethanes, polyesters, and polyacrylates, such as in the production of polyurethane elastomers, coatings, and synthetic leather.

Due to the spiroring, materials can acquire good physical properties such as heat resistance, light resistance, toughness, high hardness, and solvent resistance. Due to its high price, it is only used in the production of special modified resins and additives.
