Trihydroxyethyl isocyanurate

Abbreviation: THEIC

Molecular Formula: C9H15N3O6

Molecular Weight: 261.23

CAS No.: 839-90-7

Structural Formula:

Physicochemical Properties:

A white crystalline powder or granular solid. Melting point: 134.5–136.5°C; Hydroxyl value: 630–650 mg KOH/g; Acid value: ≤ 1.0 mg KOH/g.

Characteristics and Applications:

Containing a rigid isocyanurate heterocyclic ring and three hydroxyl groups, it enhances the heat resistance of resins. It is used in the manufacture of heat-resistant enamels for magnet wire, surface coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethane resins, water-based baking finishes, and similar products; it is also utilized in the synthesis of insecticides, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. In the field of polyurethanes, it serves as an initiator for polyether polyols and, in specific applications, can also function as a crosslinking agent.
